Aspen Valley Middle School is privileged to have perhaps the most experienced and talented counselor in the district. With twelve years of school counseling experience, Dr. Nita Bise is a Colorado Professional School Counselor, a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist.
Dr. Bise believes that all students are capable and that counseling should be a process of self-discovery and development. She also believes that healthy kids are far-better prepared for the challenges of school, and that emotional health is a pre-requisite for academic success.
Dr. Bise follows the American School Counseling Association standards for school counseling. She promotes personal and social growth through counseling that teaches personal, social, and emotional skills. Students practice those skills to improve friendship, self-efficacy, forethought, and reflection. Dr. Bise guides students in understanding their own strengths, which improves their sense of self-efficacy in the classroom and beyond. Students also learn from Dr. Bise self-advocating and communication skills, and they learn drug-awareness through Project Alert, District 20’s drug-awareness program that Dr. Bise follows.
Another area of focus is academic support. Dr. Bise helps students to practice and develop Self-Regulated Learning skills and to improve core content area skills. In the area of Career Awareness, Dr. Bise helps students understand how academic skills transfer to the world of work. Dr. Bise manages Aspens’s Career Day, Health Fair, and such programs as ICAP.
Dr. Bise guides students in different settings. Through individual counseling, group counseling, classroom guidance, and parent consultation and collaboration, she is constantly working to promote the emotional health and well-being of all Summit students.
If you have any questions or concerns about the counseling program at Aspen, feel free to contact Dr. Bise; she is happy to discuss with you our program and the results we can facilitate.
